5 in the morning
(© Hazel O`Connor / Gerard Kiely)

It's 5 in the morning, my whole body is yawning
I wish I was safe in my bed
But I got these feelings, I'm wrecked and I'm reeling
I can't get that blue out of my head

Staring outside it's a smokey blue sky
As night gears to dawn
And the blue gets bluer
Like the colour of your eyes
When i was in your arms
And you look that way, and you talk that way

It's 5 in the morning, my whole body is yawning
I wish I was safe in my bed
But I got these feelings, I'm wrecked and I'm reeling
I can't get that blue out of my head

A number is rolled, it will numb my emotionals
Eat up the chocolates you brought for me
And the boozing and the smokes
Yeah, they're poor substitutes
For all that we need
Just a little love, and the human touch

It's 5 in the morning, my whole body is yawning
I wish I was safe in my bed
But I got these feelings, I'm wrecked and I'm reeling
I can't get that blue out of my head

It's 5 in the morning, my whole body's yawning
I wish I were safe in your bed

Acoustically Yours
(© Hazel O`Connor)

Under the shelter of the old milky way
On a beautiful star studded night
I realise
I am miniscule
When ever I gaze on that sight
And I wish that you could play me a tune
And we could make music till dawn

Accompany me, through some wild diddle diddle dee
And I’ll be acoustically yours

Let's make us a wish here together we'll stand
Through the vastness of spaces and time
We can be friends' oh we can be friends
Stripped down with nothing to hide
And maybe you could play me a tune
And we could make music till dawn

Accompany me, through some wild diddle diddle dee
And I’ll be acoustically yours

If everyone who lived on this earth
Lit a torch at the very same time
Together we'd make like a new milky way
Together its how we will shine
Aah come on y'all and sing us a song
We could make music till dawn

Accompany me, through some wild diddle diddle dee
And I’ll be acoustically yours

Accompany me, through some wild diddle diddle dee
And I’ll be acoustically yours

Accompany me, through some wild diddle diddle dee
And I’ll be acoustically yours

Agus an Bothair Dubh
(© Hazel O`Connor / Gerard Kiely)

Save me from my darkness agus an bothair dubh
I've been out here a long time since I left you
Simple minds for simple monies where the work is where they pay
You reach beyond this tide of stones
And it don't matter anyway, anyway

Been gone too long
And I don't know if I'll ever make it back again
I remember how I left you, I remember how you looked
Could you save me would you save me from my darkness?
Agus an bothair dubh

With heavy heart the boat was leaving
I thought I saw you at the quay
But the mist came in thick between us then
And you were lost to me, lost to me

Been gone too long
And I don't know if I'll ever make it back again
I remember how I left you, I remember how you looked
Could you save me would you save me from my darkness?
Agus an bothair dubh

I promised I would be returning
Just to be with you again
And it's not that I forgot you love
I guess I just lost my way, lost my way

Agus an bothair dubh

Been gone too long
And I don't know if I'll ever make it back again
I remember how I left you, I remember how you looked
Could you save me would you save me from my darkness?
Agus an bothair dubh

Ain't It Funny
(© Hazel O`Connor)

Come and join the score (it's a) very holy core
(You must) Fight for freedom, Liberty (you must)
Fight for old men just like me
Now he's not in the mood (to fight)
But he'll give you clothes and food (Alright you see)
Someone else is making more than me
And that can't be Bold Economic Policy

Ain't it funny, ain't it shame
Why the fat man is snoring
You can die for his games (economy)
Ain't it funny, ain't it a joke
As you die for the fat man
He's lifting your joke

See I have no arm (for giving)
See I have no legs (to run away)
See I have no nose, no eyes
I hear no lies, I'm monkey wise
Guess I got my gun (You didn't run?)
Back in '41 (Where are you now?)
Now I wish I could just swim in the sun
Wondering what have I won
Cause it wasn't much fun at all

Ain't it funny, ain't it shame
Why the fat man is snoring
You can die for his games (economy)
Ain't it funny, ain't it a joke
As you die for the fat man
He's lifting your joke

Your country needs you today
Your country needs you to die

All I've Been Missing
(© Hazel O`Connor)

Love can be torture
Love can be joy to the soul
Love can be mountains high
Too high to go

(Love) love is a freedom song
(Love) love has no right or wrong
But I gotta have all of your lovin'
Yeah I need all of your lovin'
And I don't want it missing for the rest of my life

Love when you hold me in your tender arms
How can I hear any lies I'm lost in time

(Love) love is a freedom song
(Love) love has no right or wrong

But I gotta have all of your lovin'
Yeah I need all of your lovin'
And I don't want it missing for the rest of my life

And so I hold you tonight, my love
And so I told you it's all right
As long as I can have
All of your lovin'
Yeah I need all of your lovin'
And I don't want it missing for the rest of my life

Animal Farm (We Will Be Happy)
(Words & Music: © Hazel O'Connor)

The cock it crowed "It's morning" the donkey said "Ee-aw"
The pigs they grunted expectantly for the farmer to open the door
The chickens started clucking, they could not lay no eggs
They were just plain frightened,
Remembering what the pigs had said "just do as you're told"
Remembering what the pigs had said
And they all sang

[CHORUS:]
We will be happy, we will be free,
We're going to make it, make equality
Hap-happy are we

Now the pig said "This is our day
We're gonna chase the farmer away
Now everyone must do their work like before
Except for me and I must think for you behind this door"

So they chased the farmer away,
And the pig got on his soap box to say
"And don't you worry don't you make no fuss
All you have to do is follow us
And do as you're told
All you have to do is follow us"
And they all sang

[CHORUS]

Hap-happy are we, hap-happy are we, we're so holy

The cock it crowed "It's morning"
The donkey said "Ee-aw"
The chickens clucked expectant
For the pig to open the door

[CHORUS]

Hap-happy are we, hap-happy are we, we're so holy
Hap-happy are we, hap-happy are we, hap-happy are we, we're so holy

Beyond The Breaking Glass
(© Hazel O`Connor / Cormac De Barra)

In the alone of my night,
When the angels have all taken flight,
Monsters come out fighting
No need to Fight if I can talk,
No need to run,
If all I need to do,
is walk on the path enlightening.

An` I will go where life leads me,
`Though the road be far, and wide
Through the broken dreams of yesterday,
With time on my side,
And with faith as my guide,

I will,
Walk on to, though I,
Don`t know where I am going to,
To find my way back home at last.
Yeah I`m gonna walk on, walk on,
When I`m crumbled and cracked,
Walk on, Walk on,
Won`t be lookin` back, in anger,
Walk on beyond the broken glass.

And in the mornin` of my day,
I send the monsters on their merry way,
I celebrate their leavin`
An` of the lost, and of the gain,
An` of the joy, and of the pain,
And I tell Ya, yeah i`m still a believer.

An` I will go where life leads me,
`Though the road be far, an wide
Through the broken dreams of yesterday,
With time on my side,
And with faith as my guide,

I will,
Walk on to, though i,
Don`t know where I am going to,
To find my way back home at last.
Yeah I`m gonna, walk on, walk on,
When I`m crumbled and cracked,
Walk on, Walk on,
Won`t be lookin` back in anger,
Walk on beyond the broken glass.

Walk on, walk on, walk on, walk on,
walk on, walk on beyond the broken glass,
Yeah I`m gonna walk on,walk on,
Walk on, walk on,
Walk on, walk on beyond the broken glass

You walk on, walk on,
Walk on, walk on,
When you`re crumbled and cracked,
Walk on, walk on,
Don`t be lookin` back,
In anger,
You walk on beyond the broken glass.

You walk on, walk on,
Walk on, walk on,
If you can feel it,
Walk on, walk on
Then you can heal it
Walk on, Walk on.........

Big Brother
(© Hazel O`Connor)

They'll tear out your heart, throw it knee-deep in a cart
'cos that's what they do with the scum like me and you
And you feel as if you died, whilst you're standing on the line
And you wonder all the time why can't you cry?
But the people in control don't care for you
They're just a robot with a job to do
And when your use is exhausted, they'll be rid of you
As soon as look at you, go to the back of the queue!

B-B-Big brother's got no heart
When I get my chance
I'm gonna kick him in the ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Big brother's got no heart
When I get my chance
I'm gonna kick him in the ah (sh) ah (sh) ah (sh) ah (sh) arse

His eyes are dull, they stole his soul
They left him to rot in some stinking council hole
Where they keep him doped on beer and hopes
Of television dreams he's living on the screens
He knows something that he used to believe in
That was: Every human being should have his freedom
But while his dungeon had a way to show him
He should be more useful, as they broke into his skull

B-B-Big brother's got no heart
When I get my chance
I'm gonna kick him in the ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Big brother's got no heart
When I get my chance
I'm gonna kick him in the ah (sh) ah (sh) ah (sh) ah (sh) arse

Big brother, beware, 'cos some of us do care
And the worm (and the worm, and the worm, and the worm)
May turn (may turn, may turn, may turn)
And the violence (and the violence, and the violence, and the violence)
In my head (in my head, in my head, in my head) is real
Bam-bam, you're dead!

B-B-Big brother's got no heart
When I get my chance
I'm gonna kick him in the ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Big brother's got no heart
When I get my chance
I'm gonna kick him in the ah (sh) ah (sh) ah (sh) ah (sh) arse

B-B-Big brother's got no heart
When I get my chance
I'm gonna kick him in the ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Big brother's got no heart
When I get my chance
I'm gonna kick him in the ah (sh) ah (sh) ah (sh) ah (sh) arse

(© Hazel O`Connor)

I am the blackman and you are the white
I am the deviant and you're always right
I am the darkness and you are the light
I am the blackman, you're the white
Yeah you are the good little holier
Than thou, hide your head in your hand
You hear no, see no, speak no no no no
Understand

I am the blackness, I am the dark
I am the alcoholic pissed in the park
I am the girl who sold her body to the dark
I am the truth of it, you are the hypocrite

I am the dirty and you are the clean
I live in places where you've never been
I eat the garbage and you eat the cream
I am the dirty, you're the clean
You give me the first degree for being different to thee
You hit me, kick me, tell me you're what I should be

I am the blackness, I am the dark
I am the alcoholic pissed in the park
I am the girl who sold her body to the dark
I am the truth of it, you are the hypocrite

I am the whiteman and I paint you black
I am the traitor, but I put you on the rack
I am the coward and I shoot you in the back
I am the white man, I paint you black
Yeah I am are the good little holier
Than thou hide my head in my hands
I hear no, see no, speak no no no no
Understand

I am the blackness, I am the dark

Blackwater Side
(Trad. arr. Hazel O`Connor / Cormac De Barra)

One morning fair as I took the air
Down by Blackwater Side
And when staring all around me
An Irish lad I spied

All through the far part of the night
We spent in sport and play
Then the young man rose and put on his clothes
Saying faretheewell today

Go back, go back to your father's garden
Go back and cry your fill
And think upon your sad misfortune
You brought on by your wanton will

That's not the promise that you made to me
When you lay on my breast
I would have believed with your lying tongue
That the sun rose in the west

Go back, go back to your father's garden
Go back and cry your fill
And think upon your sad misfortune
You brought on by your wanton will

There's not a girl in this whole wide world
As easily led as I
And when fishes do fly and seas do run dry
It is when you will marry I

Go back, go back to your father's garden
Go back and cry your fill
And think upon your sad misfortune
You brought on by your wanton will
You brought on by your wanton will
You brought on by your wanton will

Bring It On Home To Me
(© S. Cooke)

If you ever, change your mind,
About leaving, leaving me behind
Won't you bring your
your sweet loving,
Bring it on home to me.

You made me cry
honey when you left,
But you only, only hurt yourself
So won't you bring your
your sweet loving,
Bring it on home to me.

I gave you jewellery,
And all my money and then it all,
All I do for you
but did it bring your, your sweet lovin'
Bring it on home to me.

Oh won't you bring your lovin'
Bring it on home to me
Why don't you bring your sweet lovin'
Bring it on home to me
Why don't you bring your sweet lovin'
Bring it on home to me

Bye Bye

You just stand here, I look through you
As though you're not there, cause what you care
You will never get to know me now
I have found I've gone off your anyhow

So bye-bye, won't see you later
Bye-bye you've become a stranger
Bye-bye, cherio now
Bye-bye

Your clothes look so good dear but what about you
I say you're all see through down to your plastic trews
You want me now but I don't want you oh no, not
At all. Not after all the things you put me through

So bye-bye, won't see you later
Bye-bye you've become a stranger
Bye-bye, cherio now
Bye-bye

Ah, I sight through you
Are you thinking that you are gods' gift to all.
Ah, you're gonna fall

So bye-bye, won't see you later
Bye-bye you've become a stranger
Bye-bye, cherio now

Calls the Tune
(© Hazel O`Connor)

Well, I saw your face in a photograph
I cried so much, I nearly laughed
You never really had the chance
To question why did you live some to cry some and die?

Who, what and how writes the song, calls the tune
Says what's right and wrong
Writes the song, calls the tune
Says what's right and wrong

Oh, I'd have caught your eyes, but my hands were tied
Was it truth? Was it lies?
Many words of truth are spoken in jest
Who would have guessed that, or trust that? What a mess!

Who, what and how writes the song, calls the tune
Says what's right and wrong
Writes the song, calls the tune
Says what's right and wrong

Who, what and how writes the song, calls the tune
Says what's right and wrong
Writes the song, calls the tune
Says what's right and wrong

Who, how
Who, how
Who writes the song?
Who writes the song?
Who writes the song?

Come into the Air
(© Hazel O`Connor)

There you are, waiting at the station
Searching frantically the place where you belong
Gave you a map that showed you your direction
A shadow tore it up and told you it was wrong
That way was too long
And danced a little song

Come into the air, cast your body like a care
You belong nowhere and you can't bear it
Come into the air, cast your body like a care
Life just isn't there, if you can't share it
So why not dare it?

Feed your eyes on cold grey city concrete
An extra pair of arms is what you really need
But keep the secret, today no one can touch you
Dine on passion, then let your heart bleed
Alone at night it's dark
Hear a lonely dog bark

Come into the air, cast your body like a care
You belong nowhere and you can't bear it
Come into the air, cast your body like a care
Life just isn't there, if you can't share it
So why not dare it?

Come into the air, cast your body like a care
You belong nowhere and you can't bear it
Come into the air, cast your body like a care
Life just isn't there, if you can't share it
So why not dare it?

Come into the air, cast your body like a care
You belong nowhere and you can't bear it
Come into the air, cast your body like a care
Life just isn't there, if you can't share it
So why not dare it?

Come into the air, cast your body like a care
You belong nowhere and you can't bear it
Come into the air, cast your body like a care
Life just isn't there, if you can't share it
So why not dare it?

Conversation From A Barstool
(© David Evans / Paul David Hewson)

I'm tired so tired I can hardly stand
Can't breath in this city tonight
It's taken everything I have to give
And now just gotta get out of here

And I won't be sorry if you won't be
And I don't want your pity or sympathy

But just a few dollars
I can make it just you wait and see

He came from Miami to start out again
Knowing him he is back with his mother by now
And he told me he loved me
And he wanted my child
But you know the way people can change their minds

And I won't be sorry if you won't be
And I don't want your pity or sympathy

But just a few dollars
I can make it just you wait and see

I was an actress a girl in the chorus line
On broadway I danced for a Kennedy
And they know me in London
And they know me in Paris
I'm only here 'cause you looked like
You needed a friend

And I won't be sorry if you won't be
And I don't want your pity or sympathy

But just a few dollars
I can make it just you wait and see

Could Be With Me
(© Hazel O`Connor / S. Hausmann)

Here's the doorway
We could say goodnight or goodbye
There's a chill in the air makes me feel
like you just didn't care
I wonder why?
Inside warm memories, a fire has burned so bright
Outside the storm rages, I want to come
into the warmth
Of your light

In the heat of the night we were shiny
In the heat of the night we were free
In the heat of the night we burned so bright
And oh
You could be with me

Well that was last night
And this is today
And the words in my mouth,
I just can't spit it out
What I really, really need to say
To say if you want me
You gotta to really, really let me know
And if you can't be sure what we're doing this for
I believe that it's time to go

In the heat of the night we were shiny
In the heat of the night we were free
In the heat of the night we burned so bright
And oh
You could be with me

Peel off black nylon in the red light
Silly old men leer through their gun sights

Cuts Too Deep
(© Hazel O`Connor)

Daylight, slowly creeping through the crack in the curtains
and it suddenly reminded me I didn't sleep allnight.
It's just the thought of you I'll swear,
Lyin' in the fatal position,

How can I sleep?
How can I sleep when it cuts too deep?
It cuts too deep.

Take a handfull of magic,
Weigh it up on the scales
of the wrong place, the wrong time
Take one body of a memory
of a bright bright eyes
I can't erase from my mind

Oh, take one girl who said yeah
I can handle it, in the voice of a child.
Does that child weep?
Does that weep,
No it cuts too deep,
It cuts too deep

Yeah well, I've cried in the morning
and I've cried at night,
I've stamped on the pain of too much longing
I've cried in the morning
and I've cried at night
now it' all done
now it's all done.

All the dreams I've dreamed
I shall dream again eternally speaking
Just now the face of eternity
looks blank into the face of time

It's just the thought of you
lying in that naked position
Oh, how could I speak?
How could I speak when it cuts too deep
It cuts too deep
Oh, it cuts too deep

It cuts too deep.....

Wind our bodies round and round
Move to the rhythm of the fare rave sounds

These are the decadent days
These are the decadent ways
These are the de de de de de decadent days
De de de de de de decadent days

Swing to the left, swing to the right
Thrust your hips to the flashing light
Whirling dervish here's the rule
Sweating hot but you stay cool

With all our bodies shaking
But still they're hesitating
From really taking it, making it, taking it

Danny Boy, the pipes the pipes are calling
From glen to glen and down the mountain side
The summer's gone and all the flowers are dying
Tis you, tis you must go, and I must say

But come you back when summer's in the meadow
Or when the valley's hushed and white, white snow
Tis I'll be there in sunshine or in shadows
Oh Danny Boy, Oh Danny Boy, I love you so

Dawn Chorus

May flit, may fly, may not understand why,
I fear, when I hear you are near me

[CHORUS:]
But did they listen, listen to you today dawn
Dawn, dawn chorus
But did they listen, listen to you today dawn
I hear you, and feel you, not yet born
I hear you, and fear you, not yet born.

I take to the sky, where the angels fear to fly
Air traffic control has just gone mad
And your song reminds him, it makes him feel so sad of those
Hot balmy night he never had.

Do What You Do
(© Hazel O`Connor)

Look at me, looking at you, looking back at me
What a sad end, when could have been friends
But you see only what you want to see
Where your thinking that is thinking, was what you were thinking, too
Well, this ain't the same as the heroes' game
So many owed so much to so few
Well! Well! Well!

Why don't you do
Why don't you do
Why don't you do as you would be done by you

Hey diddle, the cat and the fiddle
The cow jumped over the moon
The little dog laughed to see such fun
And the dish ran away with the spoon

Why don't you do
Why don't you do
Why don't you do as you would be done by you

Anger, anger, anger burns so bright
When you're lost your way lost your say
Don't know your left from your right
Bitter tasks the fruit of old men, fear is the key
Well you're grown so cold, you're grown so cold
You're grown so far away from me
Well! Well! Well!

Do What You Gotta Do
(Words & Music: © Jim Webb)

Boy, I can understand how it might be
Kind of hard to love a girl like me
I don't blame you much for want-it to be free
I just wanted you to know
I've loved you better than your own kin did
From the very start
It's my own fault what happens to my heart
See I've always known you'd go

[CHORUS:]
So you just do what you gotta do
My wild sweet love
Tho' it may mean that I'll never kiss those sweet lips again
Pay that no mind, just chase that dappled dream of yours
And come on back and see me when you can.

Now I know they make you sad
Oh it make me feel so bad
Say you don't treat me like you should
They got ways to make you feel no good
I guess they got no way to know
Had my eyes wide open from the start
And boy, the part you've shown to me
Is the part of you they'll never see
It's the part you've shown to me

[CHORUS 2x]

Just chase that dappled dream of yours
And come on back and see me when you can
Just chase that dappled dream of yours
And come on back and see me when you can

Don't Touch Me
(© Hazel O`Connor / Neil O'Connor)

When I first saw your face,
I thought here's a man
Maybe he can, give it to me, something real
Give it to me, But this time with some feeling
But I said...

Don't touch me
Give me some real feeling
Don't hold me,
Give me something right from the part

Could have misjudged you,
I could have been wrong
A man with no feeling's
Like a man who sold his soul

Well we could be friends
But let's not forget
You and me, we're worlds apart
You want me to forget our scars
Well I could try, if you could too
Well I could die
And for me and the two and you
I said....

Don't touch me
Give me some real feeling
Don't hold me,
Give me something right from the part

Could have misjudged you,
I could have been wrong
A man with no feeling's
Like a man who sold his soul

Well I travelled far and I've travelled wide
And I met them folk who cheat and lie
Who never see the coloured sky
You kill, destroy.
And I was their little toy
And friend I stand here looking at you,
And I ask you sonny, Hey what you do
To justify your fruitless lies
To justify our poisoned skies

Don't touch me
Give me some real feeling
Don't hold me,
Give me some real feeling
Don't touch me
Give me some real feeling
Don't hold me,
Give me something right from the part

Could have misjudged you,
I could have been wrong
A man with no feeling's
like a man who sold his soul
Could have misjudged you,
No I wasn't wrong

Driftwood
(© Hazel O`Connor)

Sitting on the sunny shoreline, see some driftwood
come to rest
worn out by the tides, born up by its endless rides
never free, just a bit like me.
I've been that piece of wood I've been tossed about
Upon the ocean of illusion, confusion.
Bitter and twisted like waves lashing out at the rock.

Well I now know I just gotta find
that shore line oh yeah, that little peace of mind
and let the sun shine on me

I swam the sea of passion, jealousy and pain,
ignorance pretends to drown, grabs for your hands
again, drags you down again.
Yeah, but my soul cries out just to break those chains,
Well listen you who've travelled all these jungles
concrete and the other kind, you know there's more
you got your own key the door, go on open it open it up

Well I now know I just gotta find
that shore line oh yeah, that little peace of mind
and let the sun shine on me

Been a long time from my home and I want
to get back there,
but most of my memories got washed away with the tide
a friend waits for me at the edge of the sea
my soul is your lover I cry

Oh beloved wipe away these tears from my eyes
of my illusion, my confusion.
Brittle and twisted like waves lashing out at the rock

Well I now know I just gotta find
that shore line oh yeah, that little peace of mind
and let the sun shine on me...

Ee-I-Adio
(Words & Music: © Hazel O'Connor)

Red ringed the eyes of the women who cried to the night
Black and possessed are the eyes of the man who drank to no foresight
Then suffer little children, a haunted dream
Bright eyes, scared eyes, a silent scream
Now why'd you make me hit you - he'd say
Leave me alone I hate you - she'd say
Suffer little children, hear and have no say

[CHORUS:]
A leopard can't change his spots
A tiger can't change his stripes
EE-I-addio
Mum and Dad still have their frights

This woman she takes a couple of pills to hide
When there's no place to run you'd better just shut the door inside
Well, riddle me when is a home not a home
When you're twenty floors up and your love has gone
Your love was spent on fairy soap
For hands that do dishes and hang your hopes
On children who in turn look back to you

[CHORUS]

Riddle me when is a home not a home
When you're twenty floors up and your love has gone
Your love was spent on fairy soap
For hands that do dishes and hang your hopes
On children who in turn look back to you

[Repeat CHORUS to Fade]

Eighth Day
(© Hazel O`Connor)

In the beginning was a world
Man said: Let there be more light
Electric scenes a maze of beams
Neon brights to light our boring nights

On the second day he said: Let's have a gas
Hydrogen and CO are of the past
Let's make some germs, we'll poison the worms
Man will never be surpassed

And he said: Behold what I have done
I've made a better world for everyone
Nobody laughs, nobody cries
World without end, forever and ever
Amen, amen, amen

On the third we get green and blue pill pie
On the fourth we send rockets to the sky
On the fifth metal beasts and submarines
On the sixth man prepares his final dream:

In our image, let's make robots for our slaves
Imagine all the time that we can save
Computers, machines, the silicon dream
Seventh he retired from the scene

And he said: Behold what I have done
I've made a better world for everyone
Nobody laughs, nobody cries
World without end, forever and ever
Amen (amen), amen (amen), amen (amen)

On the eighth day machine just got upset
A problem man had not foreseen as yet
No time for flight, a blinding light
Then nothing but a void, forever night

He said: Behold what man has done
There's not a world for anyone
Nobody laughs, nobody cries
World's at an end, everyone has died
Forever amen (amen), amen (amen), amen (amen)

He said: Behold what man has done
There's not a world for anyone
Nobody laughes, nobody cries
World's at an end, everyone has died
Forever amen (amen), amen (amen), amen (amen)

(Amen)

End Of My Days
(© Hazel O'Connor, Cormac De Barra)

I remember our youth as we played in the snow
Our foot steps be melting the places we'd go
When the day was done
We'd off and run
Turn round and say
Tis here I’ll be waiting at the end of my days

Now the seasons have moved on
And we've both gone our ways
And I savour the moments
And I rage at my fate
Did we lose our way
One fine day
Forgot to say
Tis here I’ll be waiting at the end of my days

I have travelled my own road
Now the end does come near
In the gathering darkness
Like a beacon you appear
And we say hello
Like we'd always know
That's where we'll be
Tis here I’ll be waiting at the end of my days
Tis here I’ll be waiting at the end of my days
Tis here I’ll be waiting at the end of my days

Fear Of Flying
(© Hazel O'Connor, Gavin Barrett)

Sometimes I’ve been afraid of flying
Then I’d wish that was lying in my home
Head hidden under the bed clothes
These days are few and far between now
I try hard to memorise words my mum said to me
Life ain't rehearsal its real so show no fear

And you could
Laugh out loud
Loud and proud
Sing and dance
Might only get one chance

Jump and run
Have your fun
Live and learn
And learn to love yourself

And be brave of heart
And try to be kind
Let love shine
And don't be afraid to fly

Sometimes life can be so trying
It's no use in sitting down and crying on my own
All alone in the blue room
Come on come out and to play like we were
Back then we'd memorise words my mum said to me
Life ain’t rehearsal its real
So show no fear

And you could
Laugh out loud
Loud and proud
Sing and dance
Might only get one chance

Jump and run
Have your fun
Live and learn
And learn to love yourself

And be brave of heart
And try to be kind
Let love shine
And don't be afraid to fly

Live is but a stage
And all the people
Merely players on it
Each one in their time
Has many entrances and many exits
Each in our time
Play many parts
Each in our time
Play many parts

You could
Laugh out loud
Loud and proud
Sing and dance
You might only get,
You might only get
One chance

Jump and run
Have your fun
Live and learn
And learn to love
You gotta learn to love
Yourself

Laugh out loud
Loud and proud
Sing and dance
You might only get,
You might only get
One chance

Jump and run
Have your fun
Live and learn
And don't be afraid to fly.

Gigolo

There he goes now walking down the street
Well decked out from his head to his feet
Women meet him, women find him oh so sweet

But stop, beware, that man don't care
When you need, when you bleed that man don't care

He's just a gigolo-o-o
A gigolo-o-o, a gigolo

Oh how he wears such a thin disguise
Look a little closer unmask his eyes
See right through him see oozing with lies

He's just a gigolo-o-o
A gigolo-o-o, a gigolo

Give Me an Inch
(© Hazel O'Connor)

'ey you, standing there, what you got to stare at?
I'm not shy if your beady little eyes abuse me like some mishap
Cackling laughter behind your hand, you're so funny, you're so bland
Here's the thing you can't understand: You are just a programme
You're a programme, you're a programme
(Programme, programme, programme, programme)

Give me an inch, and I'll take me a mile
Give me the distance from your supercilious smile
Give me an inch, and I'll take me a mile
Give me the distance from your supercilious smile
Your silliest smile

'ey you, standing there, better get some clothes on
Do as you're told, growing old, and read your daily poison
Skeletons locked in the closeted mind, locked in tight, for no one to find
See the blind, lead the blind, gotta be cruel to be kind
Who is mind-blind, who is mind-blind
(Mind-blind, mind-blind, mind-blind, mind-blind)

Give me an inch, and I'll take me a mile
Give me the distance from your supercilious smile
Give me an inch, and I'll take me a mile

Make a way for the queen
He's got the most spectacular wardrobe you've ever seen
So what if he bleaches his hair
And dresses are what he likes to wear
Who are you to say what he should do

People in glass houses don't throw stones, no, no, no
People in glass houses don't throw stones, no, no, no

And you say he's a fool
And you make this supposition cause you know he never went to school
So what if he can't do this two times two
He can do other things you can't do, I can't do, you can't do

People in glass houses don't throw stones, no, no, no
People in glass houses don't throw stones, no, no, no

You were the beacon that lit up my life
When i thought i was drowning you threw me a lifeline
You were the beauty i was the beast
You touched my soul, you made me whole,
you gave me peace
And though you may be going now into distance into time
I pray I know all the things you'll find
May the road rise up to meet you
May the wind be always there to fly
And may the sun shine 'til we meet again
And may the lord of life always protect you
Hold you safely in the palm of his hand
And may the sun shine
'Til we meet again
Thank you for being, well just being you
Thank you for being friend and helping me through
You leave an impression of love and of care
You leave me the strength
To carry the load we all must bear
And though you may be going now
into distance into time
I pray I know all the things you'll find
May the road rise up to meet you
May the wind be always there to fly
And may the sun shine 'til we meet again
And may the lord of life always protect you

Hanging Around
(Words & Music: © The Stranglers)

Big girl in the red dress
She's just trying to impress us
And she's got the barley fever
But she doesn't make a sound
She's just hanging around
She's just hanging around

Down the court road early
With the Hustlers big and burly
There's a million of 'em selling
And the buyers can be found
They're just hanging around
They're just hanging around

[CHORUS:]
Christ he told his mother
Christ he told her not to bother
Cos he's alright in the city
He's high above the ground
He's just hanging around (hanging around)
He's just hanging around (hanging around)
He's just hanging around (hanging around)
He's just hanging around (hanging around)

One of 'em comes over
Got a monkey on his shoulder
And the monkey's getting grinner
But his eyes are on the ground
They're just hanging around
They're just hanging around

I'm moving to a coleheme
With the leather all around me
And the sweat is getting steamy
But their eyes are on the ground
They're just hanging around
They're just hanging around

[CHORUS 2x]

He's just hanging around (hanging around)
He's just hanging around

Hidden
(© Hazel O'Connor, Mike Bennett)

I walked the path the winding road
That told me things that shouldn’t be told
I climbed the rock of ages old
And I saw

Hearts and souls of humanity
Earth and the air
The sky and the sea
Left all their words
That were passed on for free

Tell me how were they hidden
How were they hidden
How how
How were they hidden so long

You talk in awe of wonders and fears
And listen intently but never quite hear
You sold the rock of ages old
And you cry

Hearts and souls of humanity
The earth and the air
The sky and the sea
Began with the word
That was passed on for free

Tell me how were they hidden
How were they hidden
How how
How were they hidden so long

How were they hidden so long
How were they hidden so long
How were they hidden so long
How were they hidden so long
Been so long

I walked the path the winding road
That told me things that shouldn’t be told
I climbed the rock of ages old
And you cried

Hearts and souls of humanity
Earth and the air
The sky and the sea
Left all their words
That were passed on for free

Tell me
How were they hidden
How were they hidden
How how
How were they hidden so long

How were they hidden
How were they hidden
How how
How were they hidden so long

How were they hidden
How were they hidden
How how
How were they hidden so long
Hid so long

Hold On
(Words & Music: © Hazel O'Connor)

Hello old friend long time no see
Except the sea between you and me
And that's physical and that's impenetrable

Left you laughing at the dreams that I told you
Now I'm laughing at the dreams that they sold me
It's such a shame, you had to join their nasty game

[CHORUS 1:]
You didn't hold on
You didn't hold on
You didn't hold on
To a dream,
Ain't it obscene

The silence in your room is getting me down
The thickly atmosphere descends upon the clown
Who laughs no more, he broke the golden law

[CHORUS 2:]
He didn't hold on
He didn't hold on
He didn't hold on
To the dream,
Ain't it obscene

The way they shake you, try to wake you
Be a man now, be a woman now
Try to shake you up, try to wake you up
Be a grown up, be a sour puss

Never mind my love, I'll leave this for you
Don't bother calling me, maybe I'll call you, so
Stay on the scene
And I'll stay chasing my dreams

[CHORUS 1:]
You didn't hold on
You didn't hold on
You didn't hold on
To a dream,
Ain't it obscene

[CHORUS 2:]
He didn't hold on
He didn't hold on
He didn't hold on
To the dream,

I'll See You Again
(© Hazel O'Connor, Cormac De Barra)

In my heart, in my soul
In my darkest hours
Through rivers deep,
Lonely roads over mountain towers
Through the driving rain and the sunlit plains
It's you I embrace
From the echo on the wind
Its your song they sing

It says
I'll see you again
I'll see you again

Another door, another hall
Another lonely room
I light a candle to your name
Hoping to lift the gloom
I run my fingers through your hair
And your almost there
As play through your hair
And whatever comes my way
I'll survive siné

And
I'll see you again
I'll see you again

Through the driving rain and the sunlit plains
It's you i embrace
And whatever comes way
I'll survive siné

I said
I'll see you again
I said
I'll see you again
And
I'll see you again
I'll see you again

I'm So Sorry
(© Hazel O'Connor)

I think I'd have to have lived a long long time ago
When the moon was around and we moved to the sound
of our own romantic song
And I gave you all the gifts that my body had to bear
But this world chewed them up spat them all out
And you acted like you didn't care.

Well enough is enough when the going get tough
Did we put our love on ice did it get cold
Well this world is so rough it could steal all of our love
But it could never steal our soul

Hold on love
I can see you now
I can feel your pain
I can see you now
I can feel your pain
it's comin' down like rain
And I'm so sorry

If you should leave me now
I'll sing for you a song
And it won't be a sorry song
It won't be a where did we go wrong
No, I'll sing a song of joy
That remains forever in my soul

Because saw us tonight she carves out
The amount of joy we can hold
If you leave me now
Love, then I must stay, well, I pray we meet again
Another time, another way
This far we filled
Well it must not go cold
And they will never steal our soul

Hold on love
I can see you now
I can feel your pain
I can see you now
I can feel your pain
it's comin' down like rain
And
Hold on love
I can see you now
I can feel your pain
I can see you now
I can feel your pain
it's comin' down like rain
And I'm so sorry
Hold on love
I can see you now
I can feel your pain
I can see you now
I can feel your pain

I Don't Know
(© Neil O'Connor)

It's hard to live in a factory city
Auto metropole of the new kingdom come
Where you can look out of the glass, sure
And you can, maybe, glimpse the sun

But imagination spans further than
Fish and chips and beans from a can
My father had last night
And me?

I don't know,
I don't know what I want
But I want it now

I like to dress in rags
and silks and things
I wanna be someone else
With a different name
A different game
a different taste and smell

All my dreams go further than
Alpha centauri
I write myself into every story
Heroes and villains well,
They're my friends

And me?
I don't know,
I don't know what I want
But I want it now

Well the boys around here
act really weired
They just want to get you tied down
They never come to much
they never have the touch
They never want to leave this town
Well I guess I'm lucky
I've known a few exceptions
Who don't get off on expectations
All they need is the here and now

And me?
I don't know,
I don't know what I want
But I want it now

If Only
(© Hazel O'Connor)

What do you do when they turn on the light?
You guard your heart, so they steal your sight
You reach out in blindness, touch the alone
Its icicle fingers chill you to the bone

What do you do when the cat gets ya tongue?
No way to tell it's all going wrong
Mouth out the words on the telephone
Nobody answers, nobody's home...

What's done has been done, and I won't be the one
Who despairs in the wheelchair, resigned to "If only"
No, I'll stand up again and I'll run
I'll jump up till I touch the sun
Because I won't be the one to be bound
By the sound of "If only, if only, if only"

Well, I reach out in blindness now, but what do I care?
I'll walk into walls and I'll stumble downstairs
I'll laugh like a fishwife, I'll cry like a clown
Up is the only way to go when you're down

When I reach a mountain top, then I start to climb
I'll walk on the water, I'll turn water to wine
Hope is the one thing we got on our side
Hope can be salvaged when all else has died

What's done has been done, and I won't be the one
Who despairs in the wheelchair, resigned to "If only"
No, I'll stand up again and I'll run
I'll jump up till I touch the sun
Because I won't be the one to be bound
By the sound of "If only, if only, if only"

Just Good Friends
(© Hazel O'Connor)

Manchester morning, Picadilly calling
I ask myself what is it to be free
Free from sorrow, love's tomorrow
Oh if I had a key how different it could be.

We didn't have much money then
But we were brave, we'd take each day
And danger with a smile
Well we couldn't see finality in our golden mile.

And now we're just good friends
Ooh and friends are things that ought to last forever
Yeah we're just good friends
But I don't see you no more
You don't even call
What kind of strange friendship is this

One xxxxx evening when you'd were leaving
Fly fly away my bird, fly off to find your son
Soon come tomorrow, soon come the sorrow
If you'd just stay for once, how different it would go

I thought I saw you at the station today
So you panicked and run, oh run you silly boy
Run away, like the bird that got stuck in the skylight
He can see it but he'll never reach the sky

And now we're just good friends
Ooh and friends are things that ought to last forever
Yeah we're just good friends
But I don't see you no more
You don't even call
What kind of strange friendship is this

We used to be so different you and me
We were lovers, and that's a fact
And now I see, there's distance between you and me
And I can't seem to face the fact

Now that we're just good friends
Ooh and friends are things that
Ought to last forever
Yeah we're just good friends
But I don't see you no more
You don't even call
What kind of strange friendship is this

Let There Be Music
(© Hazel O'Connor)

Well the years go past far to fast for me
and my heart grows cold, too cold, so cold to see
and the old man waits at the door
and the child inside calls out there must be more

Let there be music, dancing, music
flight of fancy, music and dancing with your heart
let there be real life
let there be real life
let there be real emotion
let there be real life let there be real...

Light, that light, dog gone, gone left your sight oh love
them bright light, city lights, got'ya sitting pretty
what you gonna do tonight
when you burned out, beaten and torn
let the child inside call out there must be more

Let there be music, dancing, music
flight of fancy, music and dancing with your heart
let there be real life
let there be real life
let there be real emotion
let there be real life let there be real...

Why must this life be so insecure
why must hide people hide behind close doors
I am gonna change it today
gonna open the door and I'm on my way
gonna change it (real life)
gonna change it (real emotion)
see this girl she's on her way
she gonna open the doors starting today

Let there be music, dancing, music
flight of fancy, music and dancing with your heart
let there be real life
let there be real life
let there be real emotion
let there be real life let there be real...

Lovable

Isn't it good when you
Finally meet one who
Brightens your world
With their view

Maybe there's hope for me
Stop watching junk tv
I'm born again
Human being

Many lives I've lived before
Many kinds of armour
There's many loves
And many hurts
They make my heart grow harder

But you make me feel
Like I was lovable
You make feel
Like I was the only woman in the whole wide world
And it was beautiful
You make me feel
Like I was the only woman in the whole wide world

Come in and keep me warm
Shelter me from the storm
Billy will sing us a song
Then maybe we could dance
Take us a tiny chance
See we have a romance

Many times I've blown my moments
Moments heaven sent
With many tries
And many fails
I thought my strength was spent

Then you make me feel
Like I was lovable
You make feel
Like I was the only woman in the whole wide world
And it was beautiful
You make me feel
Like I was the only woman in the whole wide world

Theres many live's I've lived before
There's many kinds of harm here
There's many hopes
And many dreams
They make your heart grow stronger

And you make me feel
Like I was lovable
You make feel
Like I was the only woman in the whole wide world
And it was beautiful
You make me feel
Like I was the only woman in the whole wide world

You made me feel
Like I was lovable
Like I was the only woman in the whole wide world

Here comes my friend Michael,
grin written over his face
Walking with a kind of a swagger,
walking with a kind of a grace
He talks the talk, he tries to walk the walk
He makes you laugh, he makes you really mad,
He'll lick you with an acid tongue
Make you feel he's right,
when you know he's wrong
He says life's a bitch and then you die,
and then you die

But in the meantime, maybe in the meantime,
he keep on smiling
In the meantime, maybe in the meantime
like Michael says it's Mardi Gras

I don't think that life's like that,
choice of word is bad
Maybe it's a kind of a lesson,
maybe it's a sort of a map
We talk the talk, we try to walk the walk
It makes you laugh, and makes you feel
like you've been had
and maybe we will live many lives

Keep coming back 'til we realize it's in our hands
We choose to do wrong or do right

But in the meantime, maybe in the meantime,
he keep on smiling
In the meantime, maybe in the meantime
like Michael says it's Mardi Gras

The sun comes up and the sun comes down,
in the meantime
and the world keeps turning and
we're living and learning
In the meantime
and I think of you and wonder what you're doing,
in the meantime
Do you think of me and
what there could have been in the meantime

Here comes my friend Michael,
grin written over his face
Walking with a kind of a swagger,
walking with a sort of a grace
Lick you with an acid tongue
Make you feel he's right,
when you know he's wrong
He makes you laugh, he makes you really mad.

But in the meantime, maybe in the meantime,
he keep on smiling
In the meantime, maybe in the meantime
like Michael says it's mardi gras

Men of Good Fortune
(Words & Music: © Lou Reed)

Men of good fortune
Often cause empires to fall
While men of poor beginnings
Often can't do anything at all
The rich son waits for his father to die
While the poor just sit there and cry
And me ... ah ...
I just don't care at all

Men of good fortune
Very often can't do a thing
While men of poor beginnings
Often can't do anything
At heart they try to act like a man
Handle things the best way they can
They have no rich daddy to fall back on

Men of good fortune
Men of poor beginnings
Men of good fortune
Men of poor beginnings

Men of good fortune
Often cause empires to fall
While men of poor beginnings
Often can't do anything at all
It takes money to make money they say
But look at the Fords, hey didn't they start that way
Anyway ... ha ...
It makes no difference to me

Men of good fortune
Men of poor beginnings [Repeat to Fade]

Monsters in Disguise
(© Hazel O'Connor)

What kind of things are you that deliver papers
White papers that you say apply to me
Reams of rules constructed for protection
Protection for yourselves, but not for me

You hide behind your walls of bureaucracy
I find that you've nothing to do with me
You're all aliens
I opened up my eyes, and saw to my surprise
Monsters in disguise, wearing bowler hats and old school ties

Today you went out to inspect your servants
I saw you wave and rave from my T.V.
You promised soon that they would have a paper
Give them the right to kill quite legally

So you hide in your palace of bureaucracy
I hope that you never come terminate me
You're all aliens
I opened up my eyes, and saw to my surprise
Monsters in disguise, wearing bowler hats and old school ties

I opened up my eyes, and saw to my surprise
Monsters in disguise, wearing bowler hats and old school ties
a-I opened up my eyes, and saw to my surprise
Monsters in disguise, wearing bowler hats and old school ties
a-I opened up my eyes, and saw to my surprise
Monsters in disguise, wearing bowler hats and old school ties

My Friend Jack
(© Hazel O'Connor / A. Karner)

How many roads had I gone, I got to
Feeling like I can't go on and on
Lord it seems, it gets so lonesome when
You're following dreams
And why was I on that road, where
The angels fear, like a fool I chose
To give a stranger a ride in the night,
He said, "heh listen here darling, I'll
Open your eyes"

I've been up to the bottom, and down to the top
Better not give up until you drop.
There's a time to live, there's a time to die
My friend Jack said, he'd tell me why.

You see Jack was a guy back in Vietnam,
He had a key to survival, to dream of a better time,
And boy, joy is a thing of the past
You gotta believe in the future or you won't last

Oh I believe, I believe in love
Oh I believe in the lord above
Oh I believe in a better life for
You and me and you

Well, the next day he was gone, was he dead
Or had he up and run,
And talk with him all his hopes and his dreams
Me I was left with my nightmares and screams

I've been up to the bottom, and down to the top
Better not give up until you drop.
There's a time to live, there's a time to die
My friend Jack said, he'd tell me why.

Well I made it back from that bloody war,
My future what had it all been for
No heroes welcome and my woman had left.
See my name is Jack in case you hadn't guess

Oh I believe, I believe in love
Oh I believe in the lord above
Oh I believe in a better life for
You and me and you

So little lady when your feeling lost
Remember old Jack, remember the cost
So you got no shoes and you wail and weep
But remember there's a guy who ain't got no feet

My World (Upside Down)
(© Hazel O'Connor)

Memories of days as we walked on green hillsides
Scents of summer were high
We lay down so pleased with ourselves in the long grass
Eyes full of love, life's full of passion, passion for love
Passion for power, passion turned sour

And now I sit biding my time
Don't ask me why I've no tears to cry
'Cos they've turned my world upside down
Yes they've turned my world upside down
And we'll never see those green hills again

Check out the air today, switch on the radio
I'm bored and I wish I were home
Lay down beside me, oh hold me, enfold me
Hold me I'm scared, so scared of dying
Dying and...dying oh heavens above

And now I sit biding my time
Don't ask me why I've no tears to cry
'Cos they've turned my world upside down
Yes they've turned my world upside down

And we'll never see those green hills again
I'm afraid,god I'm afraid
Afraid of this monster
The future we made
Dark closes in, there's no air to breathe
Lord what I wouldn't give for one moment to really live

Mystifies
(© Hazel O'Connor / Neil O'Connor)

I want to see inside the situation
I want to paint some backdrop for my own inspiration
I want to seen to have been to have dreamed to my highest aspiration
and I'm going there, how long it takes I don't care,
I've got patience

I stepped inside
I tried to see
A life without when in could be
I won't give up
I know you see
But what makes you think I believe that
You got somethin' i need
You got somethin' i need
And if it mystifies you
Where's your soul?
Where's your soul?

Well you talk so much in double Dutch
It scares you that you change it such is life
and you know I care
of course I care,
But I won't wear the trappings of a wife
and when you think you know the music's dead
it'll still be going round, and round your head
And your pride and your pride and your pride,
It's cold comforts in your bed

I stepped inside
I tried to see
A life without when in could be
I won't give up
I know you see
But what makes you think I believe that
You got somethin' I need
You got somethin' I need
And if it mystifies you
Where's your soul?
And if it mystifies you
Where's your soul?
Where's your soul?

Come on and give me your soul
I want your soul
Where's your soul?

Na Na Na
(© Hazel O'Connor / Gerard Kiely)

Your script it was perfect, perfect seduction line,
lines like I will back
you up - up to when I needed you I really believed in you
It hurt when you had no time,
no time to spare for me and me
I've been there before.
Done it, got the t-shirt, read the book and seen the movie

Na na na na na na, don't need this no more
Na na na na na na, I could change the score
Na na na na na na, don't need this no more
Na na na na na na, I could change my thoughts

And the past has no power, no power over me,
'Cause I'm changing
'Cause I'm willing to - willing to learn
and I am willing to be free

Na na na na na na, don't need this no more
Na na na na na na, I could change the score
Na na na na na na, don't need this no more
Na na na na na na, I could change my thoughts

Like I'm thrilled to find I am going through
this great adventure
'cause this time I know I will never have to go through
The same experience again

Words come cheap and easy, it ain't what you say
it's what you do that
Matters, and it matters that I have been deceived,
deceived and I have
the strength to forgive you when I leave

Na na na na na na, don't need this no more
Na na na na na na, I could change the score
Na na na na na na, don't need this no more
Na na na na na na, I could change my thoughts

Like I'm thrilled to find I am going through this great adventure
'cause this time I know I will never have to go through
The same experience......again

Never Thought
(© Hazel O'Connor / Neil O'Connor)

See the flames they glow over the sky line
See how far they shine
Feel this heat it grows
Feel this heat it shows

Never thought that this could happen here
Never never not this way
Never thought that this could happen here
Never never not today

Hear the news, a whole nation is rising
Hear one voice they cry
Time to stand, stand up
Time to change the tide

Hold me close, close, close your mind
Hold me close, don't go outside

Please don't go out tonight
Please don't go out
Please don't go out tonight
Please don't go out

No Woman No Cry
(©Bob Marley)

No woman, no cry,
No woman, no cry,
No woman, no cry,
No woman, no cry.

Said said
Said I remember when we used to sit
In the government yard in Trenchtown
Oba, ob-serving the hypocrites
As they would mingle with the good people we meet
Good friends we've had, oh good friends we've lost along the way
In this bright future you can't forget your past
So dry your tears I say, and

No woman, no cry
No woman, no cry
Little darling, don't she'd no tears
No woman, no cry

Said, said, said I remember when we used to sit
In the government yard in Trenchtown
And then Georgie would make the fire light
As it was Log wood burnin' through the night
Then we would cook corn meal porridge
Of which I'll share with you

My feet is my only carriage
So I've got to push on through
But while I'm gone i mean

Everything's gonna be alright
Ev'rything's gonna be alright
Ev'rything's gonna be alright
Ev'rything's gonna be alright
Ev'rything's gonna be alright
Ev'rything's gonna be alright
Ev'rything's gonna be alright
Ev'rything's gonna be alright

So woman, no cry
No, no woman, no woman, no cry
Oh my little sister, don't she'd no tears
No woman, no cry

In the government yard in Trenchtown
And then Georgie would make the fire light
As it was, love would burn on through the night
Then we would cook cornmeal porridge
Of which I'll share with you
My fear is my only courage
So I've got to push on thru
Oh, while I'm gone

No woman no cry, no woman no cry
Oh, my little darlin' (I) said
Don't she'd no tears
No woman no cry, No woman no cry

Little darlin', don't she'd no tears
No woman no cry
Little sister, don't she'd no tears
No woman no cry

Not for You
(Words & Music: © Hazel O'Connor)

Don't promise you'll never leave me
Cos, that would be a lie
We don't perceive the change of time
Tomorrow's the throw of the dice
Believe me I have tried for you
As much as I could

But I wouldn't (couldn't) I wouldn't (I wouldn't)
I couldn't (couldn't) I wouldn't (I wouldn't)
I couldn't give up my freedom
Not for you, or for anyone else (for you)

I guess I've lived alone too long
To make this compromise
I know that this is hurting you
I've seen that look in your eyes
Oh, write me off as just another one
Who couldn't live up to your ideals

Cos I couldn't (couldn't) I wouldn't (I wouldn't)
I couldn't (couldn't) I wouldn't (I wouldn't)
I couldn't give up my freedom
Not for you, or for anyone else (for you)

So take a walk - (talk talk talk)
So take a walk - (talk talk talk)
So take a walk - (talk talk talk)
To take a walk - blah blah blah blah blah blah blah

Don't promise you'll never leave me
Cos, that would be a gross lie
We don't perceive the change of time
Tomorrow's the throw of the dice
Oh write me off as just another one
Who couldn't live up to your ideals

Cos I wouldn't (couldn't) I wouldn't (I wouldn't)
I couldn't (couldn't) I wouldn't (I wouldn't)
I couldn't give up my freedom
Not for you (not for you)
I couldn't give up my freedom
Not for you, (or for anyone else)
I couldn't give up my freedom
Not for you

One More Try
(© George Michael)

I've had enough of danger
And people on the streets
I'm looking out for angels
Just trying to find some peace
Now I think it's time
That you let me know
So if you love me
Say you love me
But if you don't just let me go...

'Cos teacher
There are things that I don't want to learn
And the last one I had
Made me cry
So I don't want to learn to
Hold you, touch you
Think that you're mine
Because it ain't no joy
For an uptown boy
Whose teacher has told him goodbye, goodbye, goodbye

When you were just a stranger
And I was at your feet
I didn't feel the danger
Now I feel the heat
That look in your eyes
Telling me no
So you think that you love me
Know that you need me
I wrote the song, I know it's wrong
Just let me go...

And teacher
There are things
That I don't want to learn
Oh the last one I had
Made me cry
So I don't want to learn to
Hold you, touch you
Think that you're mine
Because it ain't no joy
For an uptown boy
Whose teacher has told him goodbye, goodbye, goodbye

So when you say that you need me
That you'll never leave me
I know you're wrong, you're not that strong
Let me go

And teacher
There are things
That I still have to learn
But the one thing I have is my pride
Oh so I don't want to
Hold you, touch you
Think that you're mine
Because there ain't no joy
For an uptown boy
Who just isn't willing to try

I'm so cold
Inside
Maybe just one more try...

Over You
(© Hazel O'Connor / A. Karner)

Did you think it's easy to leave me
I dare you baby you try
'cause if that's your fun, this game of hit and run
I ain't gonna waste my life crying

Over you, over you
I ain't gonna waste my life
crying over you

Well my mamma earth she said, heh I've seen love,
I've seen hate, I've seen anger and pain
and they stripped my body for all that it's worth,
but ain't gonna waste my life crying

Over you, over you
I ain't gonna waste my life
crying over you

The Moral of the story
is she tattered and torn
Hell hath no fury
like a woman scorned

Perfect Days

Look out over the ocean
See what you can see
Another land, another people
Essentially like you and me
And all these lives had their moments
Been the buildings blocks of change
Recognise each circumstance
We're family not a bloody race

Get ready cause
Here come the time
Here come the place
Here come the moment
Here come the perfect days

Each and every creature
Has it's true and rightful place
We are not the overlords
We are links upon the chain
And each and every creature
Treasures in their heyday
Nobody can overlord
We're sharing, there's a world
And there's the space

Get ready cause
Here come the time
Here come the place
Here come the moment
Here come the perfect days

Get ready
Here come the time
Here come the place
Here come the moment
Here come the perfect days
Get ready

Now if you've travelled far
And if you've travelled worldwide
And you get to speak another lingo
Then you online, your online oh yeah
They say knowledge
It is power
Not to be abused
Use it for a little understanding
Gotta use that God given tool

Get ready cause
Here come the time
Here come the place
Here come the moment
Here come the perfect days
Get ready

Here come the time
Here come the place
Here come the moment
Here come the perfect days
Get ready
Get ready
Get ready
Here come the time

Prayer
(© Hazel O'Connor / Gerard Kiely)

O lord can you hear me
I have fallen hard on this road
I have overspent my strength,
Put my faith in all the wrong places
O lord could you lend me a hand
O lord would you lend me a hand?

And maybe steer me through
So I can find my way back to you
and help me lose my prejudice
and maybe I can learn to forgive

I am such a foolish one
I forgot to call on you so long
I got caught up, I got bought up
by illusion of this material world
O lord could you give this girl a hand
O lord could you give me your hand?

And maybe steer me through
So I can find my way back to you
and help me lose my prejudice
and maybe I can learn to forgive

O lord would you lend me a hand?
O lord would you lend me a hand?
O lord would you lend me a hand?
O lord would you lend me a hand?
O lord would you lend me a hand?

Would you please help me, Would you please help me
Would you please help me, Would you please,
Could you please,
Could you please?

Private War
(© Hazel O'Connor)

If I were to tell you - I was leaving, really leaving this time
If I were to say hey, see me walk out of your door
Would you believe me, would you tell me
you still need me
Oh come on - cause this time
I've gone for sure - and there must be more

All we need is the time to breathe and
the time is running short
There must be more - there must be more -
there must be more
Well let me tell you baby
You and me survive it seems just to fight our private war
There must be more -
there must be more - there must be more

Dressed in all your layers, I lost sight of just
who you really are
Dull are the feelings that once sent us reeling
Was it a thing called love?
All seems so far now, you give more reciprocation
to your shiny motor car
Well I've gone for sure - and there must be more hey

All we need is the time to breathe and
the time is running short
There must be more -
there must be more - there must be more
Well let me tell you baby
You and me survive it seems just to fight our private war
There must be more
there must be more - there must be more

You never ask for much, you only ask for my money
I would get close to you if you could let me through
Let me through

Reach
(© Hazel O'Connor)

I've been waiting here so long for this train
I nearly left the station time and time again
I could change my plans I could go another way
Or I could just have lived my life for this day
(and I'm singing)

Reach, reach oh I'm reaching out (this time)
I, I, I, I, I'm fighting back (for what is mine)
I'm reaching out, I'm fighting on and on and on

See I got a place to go to this time
And the train and me we're leaving all these
bad things behind
I've been around I've seen every kind of
hell hole and town, now I'm on my way home

Reach, reach oh I'm reaching out (this time)
I, I, I, I, I'm fighting back (for what is mine)
I'm reaching out, I'm fighting on and on and on

Unification, liberation
Unification, reciprocation

I would have done this a long time before
But I wasn't sure, I wasn't sure of your reciprocation
I said forget what the body said and search the
very heart of it and you too, come in from the cold

Reach, reach oh I'm reaching out (this time)
I, I, I, I, I'm fighting back (for what is mine)
I'm reaching out, I'm fighting on and on and on

Reason
(© Hazel O'Connor)

There is the house that we build on dreams
and crazy schemes
There is the fireside, we'd sit and talk, in peace and warm
There is the room where we made our love,
we made a child
There is the hospital where baby left and reason died

All of these memories, haunting me
I need to find a new way to be

I need a new reason
I'm searching for something to have and hold
Something with meaning
I need a new reason, I need a new goal

There is the kitchen where we smashed our cups,
smashed our love
There is the road where I'd run away when I'd had enough

All of these memories, haunting me
I need to find a new way to be
I need a new reason
I'm searching for something to have and hold
Something with meaning
I need a new reason, I need a new goal

There is the house where I'd arrive all dead inside
Where is the man who made me feel so alive

Rebecca
(© Hazel O'Connor)

A top flat in bayswater, Rebecca would be doing my hair
We had so much fun she sang all of the words to my song
as it played on the player
She'd give me her bed for the night, she would feed me and clothe me and such
I'd laugh and say, when the light hits that way
you remind me of Shirley Maclaine

When will I see you again
When will we sing silly harmonies into the night?
I try and try but I can't help missing you
I wonder where you are now

We had us a dream back then, when we got back the things that were stole
We'd have an old fashioned party, an orchestra, long gowns
And we'd be the belles of the ball
And we'd dance to the emperor's waltz, beacuse that was her favourite song
I'd laugh and say, when the light hits that way
you remind me of Shirley Maclaine

When will I see you again
When will we sing silly harmonies into the night?
I try and try but I can't help missing you
I wonder where you are now

Are you an angel, have you been reborn?
Did you find your buddha, was it worth all the toil?
I write this 'cause I miss you and
there's nothing more I can do

When will I see you again
When will we sing silly harmonies into the night?
I try and try but I can't help missing you
I wonder where you are now

Now the top flat is empty, but our rare old times call from the walls
And I hope that wherever you are you're alright
And I'll still have our ball
And we'll dance to the emperor's waltz because that was your favourite tune
I'd laugh and say, when the light hits that way
You remind me of Shirley Maclaine

When will I see you again
When will we sing silly harmonies into the night?
I try and try but I can't help missing you
I wonder where you are now.

Refugees Of Love
(© Hazel O'Connor / P. Barrett)

How could this begin
Someone held a gun took aim and fired
Thought he would win
But no one ever did

We've all been here before
Exhausted by the rage we hold within
Lonely and torn
O weary soul go home

War is over now
We lay down our arms
To find the long way home
War is never won
So who are we fighting for
We're refugees of love

How am I to tell
Were all battles waged in the name of love
I know you too well
Your weapons and your hell

They've all been used before
There's nothing new to damage or score
You know me I'm sure
And I want peace once more

War is over now
We lay down our arms
To find the long way home
War is never won
So who are we fighting for
We're refugees of love

We'll find some hope again
When we can share the blame
Enjoy that peace again
When living as one

War is over now
We lay down our arms
To find the long way home
War is never won
So who are we fighting for
We're refugees of love

How did this begin?

Reinvention
(© Hazel O'Connor / A. Karner)

I've seen people walking, sleeping, talking, chalking
up the scorchings of their amores
They're moving, grooving, crusing for a
bruising, winning, losing and I'm singing the blues encore

Cause there's something inside of me I left behind
and there's something inside of me
I just, I just got to find

It's reinvention re-i-n-v-e-n-t-i-o-n
(I'll say it again)
It's reinvention re-i-n-v-e-n-t-i-o-n

At times I have been needing, I've been
feeding on a meeting, with them people
who are cheating with a smile.
And they do their best to let me see
heh every dog can have this day
and I'm singing the blues with style

because there's something inside of me
it's ready to explode
and there's something inside of me
I know, just got to grow

It's reinvention re-i-n-v-e-n-t-i-o-n
(I'll say it again)
It's reinvention re-i-n-v-e-n-t-i-o-n

I searched the whole world over
look and never find
but lately I have realised that
all I saw with my two eyes
ain't nothing, nothing

It's reinvention re-i-n-v-e-n-t-i-o-n
(I'll say it again)
It's reinvention re-i-n-v-e-n-t-i-o-n

Runaway
(Words & Music: © Hazel O'Connor)

You hate yourself, so you hate everybody else
People can make you feel small
Small is a size when age just won't rise fast enough
So you wait for the day, to be up get away
Run run as fast as you can
Over and Over and Over the hill far away

[CHORUS:]
Runaway
Is there something you're trying to say
Runaway
Please come home one day
Runaway
Is there something you're trying to say
Over and over and over and over again

I remember the day in a grey misty way
When we boarded the boat to the hook
I was sick to the sea that was beckoning me to it's end
In the light of the dawn, feeling ragged and worn
I pointed my thumb to the sky
Over and over and over that road again

[CHORUS]

Now in the light of experience
There's something I want to say
Now in the light of experience
There's nowhere to run to
If from yourself you're really running away

[CHORUS 2x]

Runaway!

She Moves Through The Fair
(Traditional)

My young love said to me my mother won't mind
And my father won't slight you for your lack of kind
As he stepped away from me this she did say
- it will not be long love
Till our wedding day

And she stepped away from me and she moved thru the fair
And fondly I watched her go here and go there
She went her way homeward with one star awake
As the swan in the evening moves over the lake

And the people that no two were wed
That one has a sorrow that never was said
And I watched as she went with her goods and her gear
And that was the last time that I saw my dear

I dreamt it last night that my dead love came in
So softly she moved, her feet made no dir
She came close beside me and this she din say
It will not be long love till our wedding day

Oh what can I do, heh I'm feeling blue

sing, sing, sing out sister

See the little girl she be on her way

Skibbereen
(Trad. arr. Hazel O`Connor)

Oh father dear I often hear you speak of Erin's Isle
Her lofty scenes, her valley's green, her mountains rude and wild
They say it is a lovely land wherein a prince might dwell
Oh why did you abandon it the reason to me tell

Oh well do I remember that bleak december day
The landlord and the sheriff came to drive us all away
He set my roof on fire, when my rent I could not find
And that's the cruel reason that I left it all behind

Your mother too, god rest her soul, she fell on snowy ground
She could not raise her body, seeing desolation around
She never rose but slipped away from life to mortal dream
And found a quiet grave my boy in dear old skibbereen

And you were only two years old and feeble was your frame
I could not leave you with my friends, you bore your father's name
I wrapped you in my cottamore, in the dead of night unseen
I heaved a sigh, and bade goodbye to dear old skibbereen

Oh father the day may come in answer to the call
Each irishmen with feeling stern will rally one and all
I'll be the man to lead the van beneath our flag of green
And loud and high we'll raise a cry remember skibereen

Smile
(© Hazel O'Connor / Neil O'Connor)

I swim across
A sea of broken dreams
I know that scene drownin's as easy as it seems
Yeah I know, I smile and let it go

I smile and let it go
I smile across
I try and dance again
Feelin' the heat
Feelin' the beat
Do you dance?
I don't know
I smile and it won't show
I smile and it won't show

I smile when that mother chats me up
to bring me down
I smile when you take me higher
just to drop me to the ground
I smile
Because I understand

I smile because I know
And would you up
and lead me on the floor
Dancing alone swing through the crowd
Swing to the shore
Even though, I smile and then I go
I smile and then I go
Turn turn again get up ***** see
just find your feet
just find the right beat
to ***************
I smile and let it go

I smile when that mother chats me up
to bring me down
I smile when you take me higher
just to drop me to the ground
I smile
Because I understand

So You're Born
(Words & Music: © Hazel O'Connor)

So you're born, so you're torn
From a place that's safe and warm
I took a journey to see a world
And you're born
And you're torn

So you're pulled from pillar to post
And you're told it's best to be the one who knows the most
Yet the more I know, I know nothing
Nothing at all
Yeh, you're born

I met a man, who sung a song
And the know-it-intellects said each note was wrong
It made me happy, that's enough
So why did they give that man a rough time

Born
Torn

I have no memory for what I do
It's just a feeling, that I give to you
Yeh, the more I know, I know nothing
Nothing at all
Yeh, and you're born

I met a man who sailed to sea
Told me everything in this world is free
He said faith, mark you, is all you need
To believe is also to bleed

You're born
Yeh and you're torn
So you're born
And you're born, and you're torn
And you're born, and you're torn

So you're born, so you're torn
From a place that's safe and warm
Took a journey to see a world
So you're born

Something
(© Hazel O'Connor / Gerard Kiely)

Bonded in this motion of moving in time
Feeling of intention, heart beating on mine
Turning even closer letting the world fade away
I am lost in this very moment, lost in this state of grace

Feel it with my body
Feel it with my soul
Feel it with my heart
and in my mind I don't know

It's coming like a rumour, hear it in my head
Coming like a rumour, coming calling through the air

Feel it with my body
Feel it with my soul
Feel it with my heart
and in my mind I don't know

I think it's something to do with us,
I think it's something to do with everything and everybody
and the universe
I think it's something to do with love

Burning with emotion, now you're stroking my face
I am holding onto caution, the hour is late
Dancing nearly over, where do we take it from here?
I am needing some indication, whisper it softly in my ear

Say it to my body
Say it tomy soul
Say it to my heart
Say it to my mind so I'll know
Say it like a lover, say it in the tone
Calling like a lover, coming calling through on the phone

I think it's something to do with us,
I think it's something to do with everything and everybody
and the universe
I think it's something to do with love

Feel it with my body
Feel it with my soul
Feel it with my heart
And in my mind I don't know

It's something like a rumour, hear it in my head
Coming like a rumour, coming calling through the air

I think it's something to do with us,
I think it's something to do with everything and everybody

Sons And Lovers

Got to have to make you see
There's certain thing and needs to be
I need a father must be wild
Need you to take me like a child
I want to be your wettest dream
Tease your body 'till you scream
Bite you lick you like ice-cream
Scare you dare you be obscene

I want to be an animal
I want to be a lover
I want to be a little girl
I want to be a mother

How about it brother
Do you want a mother
Do you want a lover, a lover, a lover like me

To be your nurse all that and worse
Then be your whore break down the door
I'll be patient to the cause
Fell the the pulse and then we'll pause
And if you're sure I crave for more
That's when you come I'll up and run
Femme Fatale, then animal, sister, lover, tomboy, brother

I want to be an animal
I want to be a lover
I want to be a little girl
I want to be a mother

Bounce me upon your knee
Place your head below the bedclothes

Spancill Hill
(Traditional)

One night as he lay dreaming of pleasant days gone by
His mind being bent on rambling to lreland he did fly
he stepped on a vision and he followed with the wind,
when at last he came to anchor at the cross of Spancill Hill.

Then on the 23rd of June the day before the fair,
When Ireland's sons and daughters and
friends assembled there.
The young and the old, the brave and
the bold cametheir dutie to fulfill
At the Parish Church in Clooney a mile from Spancill Hill.

He went to see his neighbours to see how they did fare,
The old ones were all dead and gone
the young ones turning grey.
He met with tailor Quigley he's as funny as ever still,
Johnny used to patch his britches
when he lived in Spancill Hill.

He paid a flying visit to his one and only love,
She's as gentle as a puppy and as pretty as a doll
She threw her arms around me saying,
Johnny I love you still,
Sure she's Ned the farmer's daughter and the pride of Spancill Hill.

He dreamt he held, he kissed her as many a time before,
Oh Johnny you're only joking as many a time before.
The cock he crowed in the morning he crowed
both clear and shrill,
He awoke in California many miles from Spancill Hill.

Still Breathing
(© Hazel O'Connor / Cormac De Barra)

Well did you ever get the feeling you've
been here before
Well I do!
You see a face, you know a place
Maybe it's deja-vu

You better believe in the freedom
You know the next line
You better believe in the feeling
Time after time I am dreaming
Am I dreaming?

I dive down into life's ocean
I'm riding on the crest of a wave
A big momma come a crashin' down on me
I spin around, hit the ground, rise again,
I spit the sound and say

Hey-ho - I'm still breathing
Hey-ho - I've survived
Hey-ho - I'm still breathing
Hey-ho - I'm alive

Well did you ever get to wonder
about the road that you chose?
Well I do!
You lose your way, you find your say,
you have your day
Encore deja-vu

You better believe in the reason
you do what you do
You better believe in the meaning
The journey's for you
It's for you
Are you dreaming?

You dive down into life's ocean
You're riding on the crest of a wave
A big momma come a crashin' down on you
You spin around, hit the ground,
rise again, you spit the sound and say

Hey-ho - I'm still breathing
Hey-ho - I've survived
Hey-ho - I'm still breathing
Hey-ho - I'm alive

Hey-ho - I'm still breathing
Hey-ho - I've survived
Hey-ho - I'm still breathing
Hey-ho - I'm alive
I'm alive
I'm alive

Stranger in a Strange Land
(© Hazel O'Connor, KFT)

In silent wonder she moves through the crowd
Faces, faces - Human racing
All spaced out - glancing from the corner of their eyes
I need a touch or a smile

Cause I'm a stranger in a strange land
Give me a smile or a helping hand
Cause I'm a stranger in a strange land
Give me a smile or a little understanding
Cause I'm a stranger in a strange land

Sweet, sweet charity starts at home
They say - show me, show me a day
That the world could change for
The better lets do it this way
From the heart, from the heart I'd say

Cause I'm a stranger in a strange land
Give me a smile or a little helping hand
Cause I'm a stranger in a strange land
Give me a smile or a little understanding
Cause I'm a stranger in a strange land

I'm a stranger in a stranger land
I'm a stranger yeah-yeah
Come on, help a stranger
I'm a stranger in an even stranger land
You gotta give me a hand
You gotta give me some understanding
You gotta give me a smile in a while
I won't be a stranger, hey ma

Strong
(© Hazel O'Connor, Gavin Barrett)

Somebody told me
Your spirit had gone
Worn down by a cynical world
Had it stolen your clothes

Somebody told me you know, you know
If it don't kill you it'll make you strong

And I wish I was close
I would wrap my lovin' arms around you
But I’m not and all I’ve got
Are my platitudes, songs and the
Hopes that you'll make it through

Somebody told me you know
Don’t you know
If it don't kill you it'll make you strong
If it don't kill you it'll make you strong

I tried to remember
Was such a long time ago
When we were forever
You said we'd always gone on
Being stronger and stronger
And strong

Stronger and strong

Somebody told me
Your spirit had gone
But I don't believe it's true
Cause it was you
Who said the spirit goes on and on and on

Somebody told me it was you - you know
If it don’t kill you it'll make you strong

Yeah yeah it will make you so strong
It will make you so strong
You'll be stronger than strong

Summertime,
And the livin' is easy
Fish are jumpin'
And the cotton is high

Your daddy's rich
And your mamma's good lookin'
So hush little baby
Don't you cry

One of these mornings
You're going to rise up singing
Then you'll spread your wings
And you'll take to the sky

But till that morning
There's a'nothing can harm you
With daddy and mamma standing by

Summertime,
And the livin' is easy
Fish are jumpin'
And the cotton is high

Your daddy's rich
And your mamma's good lookin'

Take a Ride
(© Hazel O'Connor / Gerard Kiely)

I'm flying over mountains in my head
I am riding through the eye of the storm

Yeah, I could fly, fly right out of the comfort zone
or maybe I could take a ride, right on through
the eye of the storm
I think I'll take a ride, take a ride and not think about it
Make a move, make a move in the right direction
on a wing and a prayer, with the help, with the help
of all of my friends
I think I'll just feel the fear and do it, do it
just feel the fear and do it, do it anyway

Take a vibe, take a vibe and turn it into good things
Make a change, make a change from buzzing in the backroom
Won't worry if I fall I sing a song, sing a song
to lift me up yeah
Just feel the fear and do it do it
Just feel the fear and do it do it anyway

Take a chance, take a chance on
this could be the right time
Make a dream, make a dream you can
make it come true babe
All we gotta do is beileve all we need, all we need and we shall receive
Just feel the fear and do it, do it,
Just feel the fear and do it, do it anyway

If I believe I can fly - then I can
and if I want to take a ride then I shall

Tell Me A Story

Grey skies, up above
Smokey London ain't you got any love
Empty faces, they don't care
Nobody gives too much cos nobody dare
Nobody dare ah ha,
Nobody dare ah ha

Sunshine comes out it seems
Brings to life light shattered dreams
Hopes and fears of all the years
Are met inside of these glistening tears
Oh the tears ah ha
of the years ah ha
And you, I'm reaching for you to

Just tell me a story now
I listen to you
I've been lonely too
Just a story to crack the ice
I listen to you,
I've been lonely too

I've seen scars all over the place
I've seen people who just couldn't keep up the pace
I've seen a man shot down dead
I've seen just another story
Everybody read in the news today ah ha
In the news today ah ha
You, I'm reaching for you to

Just tell me a story now
I listen to you
I've been lonely too
Just a story to crack the ice
I listen to you,
I've been lonely too

I remember long before
So called friends came through that door
I remember but where are those friends now
You, I'm reaching for you to

Just tell me a story now
I listen to you
I've been lonely too
Just a story to crack the ice
I listen to you,

That's Life
(Words & Music: © Hazel O'Connor)

Sometimes I find it so hard to understand
We had some laughs together
Together we tried to change hand in hand
But now it's come to this, for now goodbye
And I must love you and leave you
And you must love me and leave me
And I must love you and leave you

But if ...

[CHORUS:]
If I had another chance
I would have the same romance
With life and you
The lands we travelled through
If I had my time again
I'd change it not another way
With you and life
The happiness and the knife
That's life (life)
That's life (life)
That's life (life, life, life)

A penny for your thoughts right now
Hey, I think I know
It's sad but I'll not let you see
One single tear when it's time for you to go
Hey we can say our goodbyes with a smile
And I must love you and leave you
And you must love me and leave me
And I must love you and leave you

But if ...

[CHORUS]

And I must love you and leave you
And you must love me and leave me
And I must love you and leave you

But if ... if ...

The Hour Before The Dawn
(© Hazel O'Connor, KFT)

Be gone!

So you packed your bags and you're on the run
You're on the run from your mama
Did you think you'll find your very own piece of life
This road you choose it's too unkind

The hour before the dawn will be your darkest you'll see
The hour before the dawn and you'll be missing me

Cause the bed is made, the price it's paid
But don't come back, mama don't wait

And I wish for you all the fun and things
In time you'll justify your reasons
Myself I guess I'll pick myself up and yes
Forgive but not forget your treason

The hour before the dawn has been the longest for me
The hour before the dawn and you'll be missing me

Be gone! and me I must carry on with my life
Cos I'm not a mama, no I'm not a wife
Oh, I am a person who thinks, feels and breathes
And no it is I

Be gone! and me I must carry on with my life
Cos I'm not a mama, no I'm not a wife
Oh, I am a person who thinks, feels and breathes
And no it is I - who'll leave

So you packed your bags and you're out for fun
And you're on the run from your mama
Did you think you'll find your very own piece of mindless road you chose
It's too unkind

The hour before the dawn will be the darkest you'll see
The hour before the dawn and you'll be missing me

Be gone! and me I must carry on with my life
Cos I'm not a mama and I'm not your wife
Oh, I am a person who thinks, feels and breathes
And no it is I

Be gone! and me I must carry on with my life
Oh, I'm not your mama, no I'm not your wife
Oh, I am a person who thinks, feels and breathes
And no it is I - who'll leave

The Man I Love
(© G. & I. Gerschwin)

Someday he'll come along, the man I love.
And he'll be big and strong, the man I love.
And when he comes my way, I'll do my best to make him stay.

He'll look at me and smile, I'll understand.
And in a little while, he'll take my hand.
And though it seems absurd, I know we both won't say a word.

Maybe I shall meet him Sunday, maybe Monday, maybe not.
Still I'm sure to meet him one day,
Maybe Tuesday will be my good news day.

He'll build a little home, just meant for two,
From which I'll never roam, who would, would you?
And so all else above, I'm waiting for the man I love.

He'll build a little home, just meant for two.
From which I'll never roam, who would, would you?
And so all else above, I'm waiting for the man I love.

Thinkin' About You
(© Hazel O'Connor / Cormac De Barra)

I think about you,
When I could be scrubbin` floors,
or plottin` a bank robbery,
Do you think of me?

and sometimes,
When I`m feelin` like a lost child,
I imagine you are holdin` me,
Your breath on me.
Ten thousand miles from home,
Ten thousand from you.
Yeah Venice beach is fine,
but I'd rather spent time with you

and I, I'm walkin` in sunshine,
I'm talkin` with you in my mind,
Wish you were here, with me
And we`d be walkin` in sunshine,
We'd be talkin` bout life and times,
We'd be walkin` in rhythm and rhyme,
and the sky is clear and blue,
And I'm thinkin` bout you.

And I trust what`s mine,
Will come to me in time,
And I will be ready,
I'll be steady,
I'll be go go go,
And this I know,
There ain't no way to push the river
faster than it`s meant to go, no no
Ten thousand miles I`ve gone,
Ten thousand to L.A
and if I wrote to you
here are the things I`d say

That I`m,
I`m walkin` in sunshine,
I`m talkin` with you in my mind,
Wish you were here, with me
And we`d be walkin` in sunshine,
We`d be talkin` bout life and times,
We`d be walkin` in rhythm and rhyme,
and the sky is clear and blue,
Yeah I`m thinkin` bout you.

Then stay in touch,
Stay in touch.....
(repeat)

And I,
I`m walkin` in sunshine,
I`m talkin` with you in my mind,
Wish you were here, with me
And we`d be walkin` in sunshine,
We`d be talkin` bout life and times,
We`d be walkin` in rhythm and rhyme,
and I,

I been walkin` in sunshine,
I been talkin` with you in my mind,
I wish that you were here,
and we
We`d be walkin` in sunshine,
We`d be talkin` bout life and times,
We`d be talkin` in rhythm and rhyme,
and the sky is clear and blue,
and I`m thinkin` bout you.
and I`m feelin` blue...
Thinkin` bout you...

This Could Be

There you go, make like the world owes you a living again
what do you know, I have done for you the best that anyone could do...
times have been hard, yeah I know, and the knocks
destroy your very soul
you should stop, turn around and start again o come on!

This could be, the very best
that ever happened to you, happened to me
This could be, the very best
that ever happened to you, happened to me

And you talk to me, you talk to me in words of love
there you go...
and you're dreaming of your future, but your holding on,
holding on to your past stuff, let it go...

Come on over here and hold me tight
we got the power babe to change our lives
we gotta stop, turn around and start again
oh come on!

This could be, the very best
that ever happened to you, happened to me
This could be, the very best
that ever happened to you, happened to me

And I wanna feel love
and I wanna breath love
and I wanna seethe with love
and I wanna be in, be in love

have blinded me, those eyes
and there have been arms, have held me tight

Nobody was holding me the way that you do
nobody could get to met the way that you have been gotten through

It's those eyes, I can't get them out of my mind
it's your eyes, and they're mine

I just wanna tell you, I'm in love with your eyes

At times I love you, you've been my best friend
I hate when you pretend to me, we're enemies at times
did I tell you, I need you, it's like the air that I breathe,
and I believe in you, I believe

It's those eyes, I can't get them out of my mind
it's your eyes, and they're mine

Time (Ain't On Our Side)

Wasn't it good the rose coloured glasses
Playing our games, taking our chances
Time was our friend, seemed to stand still
We were immortal that was until
We thought we take our fill
We'd time to kill
The time ran out on us

Time - ain't on our side
Time - took us for a ride
Then time ran out on us

How could we see the way that things change
Time takes its toll don't stay the same
Suddenly now is a long time gone
Time is immortal it waits for none
It's here and it's gone, the time run out on us

Time - ain't on our side
Time - took us for a ride
Then time ran out on us

Oh do you remember the first kiss in a darkened doorway
So naive and tender, eyes closed
Dreaming away. Do you remember?
We were forever, then time ran out on us

Time has come, release and heal
Can't keep holding on, time for moving on

Time has come I must get out of this place
I'm losing the plot, I feel I'm losing the race
and I'll be dreaming of the way that you touch me
And your face will probably hurt me forever

Time has come, time to let go
Can't keep holding on, can't keep holding on
Time has come, release and heal
Can't keep holding on, time for moving on

I forgive but I just can't forget the past
How to let go of all the things I never had
Another life another chance another kiss
And the romance will probably haunt you forever

Time has come, time to let go
Can't keep holding on, can't keep holding on
Time has come, release and heal
Can't keep holding on, time for moving on

To Be Freed
(© Hazel O'Connor / A. Karner)

I was drowning in my anger and my mystery,
someone once told me
it's a diver you must learn to be
so I dived to the bottom of the ocean
I made friends with the things that
I feared, and didn't I rise to the tides
and I was freed

I was climbing up the mountain with
My excess baggage getting me down, down, down
My strength had all deserted me, mistakes
They weigh so heavily, Lord I fell to the ground
Then I looked inside my suitcase full
Of trouble and strife and all my victories
And sorrows of my past life and didn't I rise
and I was freed

I was dreaming we were eagles, flying
high, high to the edge of the sky
we vowed before the universe, stars
lit the space like some great church
where many candles shine
and your eyes were bright and firey
like the day that we met, I remembered
how I felt before our war made me forget.
And didn't I rise to the sky
and I was freed

Now I realise, these obstacles
that we find - are teachers and the guides -
in my life, in my life, in my

I still love you, and I know
you still love me too

To be freed...

Top of the Wheel

Round and round and round again
Increasing circles, what a fun game!
We think we're different, we're not the same
As you and me and she and he

And we always believed that we're something unique
Our new little rich friends want us in their clique
And we'll play, we'll play all of our days away

There's you scratching my back, me scratching yours
Rub up the right way, it always ensures
We'll know the right people, open right doors
To the land of the famous incredible bores

And I got no respect for you, you're just a fake
Gave up your lot for a bite of the cake
And we'll play, we'll play all of our days away

How could we feel? We're so unreal
Stuck at the top of the wheel
You're the sucker who fell for their spiel
You're the crawler who fell for their deal

Your smug little cliches, they get up my nose
Your hair dyed, your fine clothes, they're all for the pose
Naked before me, your cover is blown

Here come the robots, the mindless, the clones
And you sold up our insides, body and soul
Do as you're told now, and we'll play our roles
And we'll play, we'll play all of our days away

How could we feel? We're so unreal
Stop at the top of the wheel
You're the sucker who fell for their spiel
You're the crawler who fell for their deal

How could we feel? We're so unreal
Stop at the top of the wheel
You're the sucker who fell for their spiel
You're the crawler who fell for their deal ... [fade out]

Waiting
(© Hazel O'Connor)

I go down the left side instead of the right
I'm suffocating and I'm having to fight
To keep myself moving out the crowd
Who throw side long, but never turn round
Armies of people moved quietly on
So long resigned to become an d be gone, be gone

Waiting, waiting for something to come
Waiting, waiting with nowhere to run
Waiting, waiting is this the sum total of my life?

I'm blown by the day winds of fluorescent light
No chance to think now my time is in sight
No hiding quickly behind printed papers
No way of escaping, Not looking much safer?
Armies of people moved quietly on
So long resigned to become and be gone be gone

Waiting, waiting for something to come
Waiting, waiting with nowhere to run
Waiting, waiting is this the sum total of my life?

Gotta keep moving outside of the crowd
If I'm not careful they'll dragging me down

Who Needs It
(© Hazel O'Connor)

Living in the shadow of the mushroom tower
Who needs it?
Find no shelter from that kind of shower
Who needs it?
Nuclear rain, melting my brain
Who needs it - not you, not me, who needs this insanity?

At the top of the tower there's a creature who wants power
Who needs it? (Who needs it?)
If he gets in the dungeon, he could just press the button
Who needs it? (Who needs it?)
He'll flee inside, and you'll have nowhere to hide
Who needs it - not you, not me, who needs this insanity?

Who needs it, who needs it?
I need it like a hole in the head
Don't need it, don't need it
Here comes the era, the era of the living dead

(Who needs it, who needs it?)
(Who needs it, who needs it?)
(Who needs it, who needs it?)
(Who needs it, who needs it?)

Who needs it, who needs it?
I need it like a hole in the head
Don't need it, don't need it
Here comes the era, the era of the living dead
(Who needs it, who needs it?)

Who needs it, who needs it?
I need it like a hole in the head
Don't need it, don't need it
Here comes the era, the era of the living dead
(Who needs it, who needs it?)

Who needs it, who needs it?
I need it like a hole in the head
Don't need it, don't need it
Here comes the era, the era of the living dead
(Who needs it, who needs it?)

Thank you

Who Will Care
(© Hazel O'Connor)

Did she wake up cold and alone
Hoping someone might phone
Did she crawl out of bed, scratch her head
Look in the mirror and think she was dead
Who will care? Who will care?
Did she thrown on her clothes and
Walk slowly to the door
Go into town hoping to score
Did she find her a man who said he'd give her all he can
And when that's not enough then life starts to get tough
Who will care? Who will care?

Did she die in the cold
Was she scared to be old
Nobody knows where and old loner goes
At the end of the line

And on one grey day some children at play
Saw her dead body, thought it was funny
Oh look at that lady on the ground fast asleep
Nobody knew her so nobody weeps
Who will care? Who will care?

Did she die in the cold
Was she scared to be old
Nobody knows where and old loner goes
At the end of the line

Did she? Did she? Who was she?

Will You
(© Hazel O`Connor / Wesley Magoogan)

You drink your coffee and I sip my tea
And we're sitting here playing so cool, thinking "What will be, will be"
But it's getting kind of late now
Oh I wonder if you'll stay now, stay now, stay now, stay now
Or Will Youjust politely say goodnight?

I move a little closer to you, not knowing quite what to do
And I'm feeling all fingers and thumbs, I spill my tea, oh silly me!
But it's getting kind of late now
I wonder if you'll stay now, stay now, stay now, stay now
Or Will Youjust politely say goodnight?

And then we touch much too much
This moment has been waiting for a long long time
Makes me shiver, it makes me quiver
This moment I'm so unsure
This moment I've waited for
Is it something you've been waiting for, waiting for too?

Take off your eyes, bare your soul
Gather me to you and make me whole
Tell me your secrets, sing me the song
Sing it to me in the silent tongue
But it's getting kind of late now
I wonder if you'll stay now, stay now, stay now, stay now
Or Will Youjust politely say goodnight?

Writing on the Wall
(© Hazel O'Connor)

Down a tunnel, in a tube
On the floor, knocked down by booze
Busy man has blown his fuse
While crossword people look for clues
I say sir, get your nose out of the paper
Take a good look at what's going down
Get clued into the shape of
The shape of things to come

Have you seen the writing on the wall?
Have you seen the writing on the wall?
Reaching out for you it calls
Have you seen the writing on the wall?
Did you look for your cause?
Writing on the wall?

Life, I'm told's a compromise
Lethargy in disguise
Excuses by the faint of heart
Stuck in the mud before they start
I say sir, wouldn't you rather be on top of the world
As opposed to always travelling underneath the ground?

Have you seen the writing on the wall?
Have you seen the writing on the wall?
Reaching out for you it calls
Have you seen the writing on the wall?
Did you look for your cause?
Have you seen the writing on the wall?

La-la-la-la ...

I say sir, get your nose out of the paper
Take a good look at what's going on

Get clued into the shape of
The shape of things to come

Have you seen the writing on the wall?
Have you seen the writing on the wall?
Reaching out for you it calls
Have you seen the writing on the wall?
Did you look for your cause?
Have you seen the writing on the wall?

Have you seen the writing on the wall?
Have you seen the writing on the wall?
Reaching out for you it calls
Have you seen the writing on the wall?
Did you look for your cause?
Have you seen the writing on the wall?

Zoo
(© Hazel O'Connor)

What can I do? Up here in the zoo
I've been here too much longer than I remember
What can I say, will there be a day
When we can all leave this place forever, forever, forever
Wake up at 8, place you hate
Ready by 9 for feeding time
Spectators at 10 to look in your pen
And we perform for them

At the zoo, you, you what do you do
At the zoo, you, you we perform for you
At the zoo, you, you what do you care
You just stand there and stare

Animals cry at night, a tearful tiger is a terrible sight
He remembers how he used to run free like me
And we don't laugh anymore
Sitting wondering what we ever laughed for
Looking at the ever closed door
What more, what more

At the zoo, you, you what do you do
At the zoo, you, you we perform for you
At the zoo, you, you what do you care
You just stand there and stare
